Necker Island | British Virgin Island
Necker Island is a small private island in British Virgin Island, owned by the Virgin brand founder, Sir Richard Branson. In 1979, he offered to purchase the island for $100,000-$4.9 million below the 74-acre isle’s asking price, which subsequently being refused.
In 1982 , due to the original owner needs for cash injection, he agreed to release the island for $300,000. It took 3 years and approximately US$10 million for Sir Richard to transform it into an exotic hideaway.
British architect, Jon Osmon, lead the development of Necker Island. Necker main structure includes four Balinese-style cottage, including the nine room Great House surrounding a hill above the beach. Sliding glass doors surround an airy living area, a library, a dining room and the top floor-master suite.
The island can accommodate up to 28 people and the rate is $47,000 per night or $329,000 per week. Famous celebrities who rent this properties includes Oprah Winfrey, Princess Diana, Harrison Ford and Mariah Carey.
