Crete-A land of legends
Crete is considered as the largest island of Greece. It is unique from any other islands of Greece owing to its rich history and magnificent beauty of the mountain ranges. Besides the mountain ranges and historical legends, Crete is famous for its 1000km long coastline, numerous caves, peninsula and bays.
The historical and legendary past of Crete can be experienced in the Knossos palace, which is regarded as the biggest excavation till date. This place was considered as the political centre of the ancient Minoan civilization. Other important tourist destination includes the city of Chania, build during the 13th century. The Rethymnon Venetian fortress, which is also known as Fortezza, is built on the island of Crete.
Other important destinations, which bear testimony to the historical Minoan civilization includes the Knossos palace and Phaestos palace.
Besides these historical sites, attractions like The Amari valley, Argiroupolis Village, Omalos plateau and the Imbros gorge are also considerably famous with tourists.
