The solar city of Lhasa is also known as the roof of the world. Situated at a towering height of 4000 m above the sea level, this magnificent city attracts tourist all round the year. One of the most important landmarks of Lhasa is the Potala Palace. This magnificent structure was originally built in 641AD, by Songtsen Gampo to commemorate his weeding with princess Wencheng. The Jokhang Temple is an important religious site for Tibetans. The roof of the temple is covered in gold which adds to the charm of its beauty. Constructed in 647 AD it occupies a total area of 25,000 sq meters.

Other important attractions of Lhasa include the Drepung Monastery, the Sera Temple, Gandan Temple, Norbulingka Park and the Tibet Museum.
