The Angkor Wat has become synonymous with Cambodia. This magnificent temple has become such an integral part of the Cambodian culture that it features in the national flag of the country.
After the city of Angkor fell, this temple receded to the jungles. However it continued to be in activity as a Buddhist centre and centre for pilgrimage. The temple was built by the king of the Khemur Empire and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
